From 7-22 September the Start Alliance organization, together with Berlin Partners hosted startups from the world’s founder metropolises in Berlin. 15 young entrepreneurs from Tel Aviv, London, New York and Paris traveled to the capital to try out Berlin as a location for their German or European business and to network with potential partners.

Initially, startups and founders participated at startupNight, the kick-off event, where the first pitch and networking opportunities awaited them. Also, Airbnb hosted a welcome party on Monday evening, before the events on the following days unfolded with workshops on topics such as obtaining finances from VC funds or public, hiring the best people, operating in accordance with German law and immigration system, as well as getting extraordinary public relations and marketing services. In addition, the participants met several top experts for pitch training; they networked with the Berlin economy, and got to know Berlin as they dined together and went on a city tour.

At the big finale, the Start Alliance Demo Day, the founders made their pitches to investors and the established industry. It is indeed a great way for founders to end their stay before they come back to Berlin for business.

Alexander Schwarz, CEO of Airbnb Germany said, “We are delighted to welcome young entrepreneurs from other startup hubs to Berlin for the second time together with Berlin Partner. Along with the Berlin Airbnb Community, we want to help the international founders experience the city from the perspective of the citizens of Berlin and really immerse themselves in it. To ensure that Berlin can continue to develop successfully as a startup-capital, it is important that politics and the economy work together. The Start Alliance program is a great initiative that we’re happy to support.”

The business models of the 15 startups are diverse, but they are mainly focused on future technologies such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality, or big data. ARVRtech is represented by Milena Milicevic who is the content creator and business developer in a company. During Start Alliance program, Milena had incredible opportunities of pitching ImmersiveM platform for fast creation and tracking of immersive marketing campaigns in Augmented and Virtual Reality, powered by artificial intelligence.

Milena shares her impressions, ‘‘Start Alliance program is the eye-opener and gate-opener to international companies that are serious about expanding to the German market. This is my third time that I live and work in Berlin and not just because I speak the German language, I realized during this program that Germany is one of the most important markets in the world for AR and VR solutions, as well as artificial intelligence and Internet of Things. The reason why it is like that is because both German multinational companies and SMEs partner with startups that can help them harness digital transformation in their processes.

“With the Start Alliance, we created a unique program that brings innovations from new startups from the world’s most important startup hubs to Berlin and at the same time opens doors internationally to Berlin ideas,” says Dr. Stefan Franzke, CEO of Berlin Partner. “Over the period of two weeks, we deliberately brought together the founders with local industry specialists, for whom we’re providing insight from beyond the Berlin startup scene. For the participants, the stay in Berlin is another chance to get started internationally and to get established players from Germany interested in them. Ideally, this will lead to successful partnerships or the decision to open up a location in Berlin.”

In addition to Airbnb, the METRO Accelerator, Commerzbank, and the CleanTech Innovation Center are among the partners of the Start Alliance Berlin. The governing Mayor of Berlin, Michael Müller, is the sponsor of the startup exchange program.

ARVRtech took this opportunity to learn how to develop business in Germany and attract investors for our Immerive4, AI-based platform for AR and VR applications in marketing and education. The initial impressions from German and Berlin tech ecosystem are very positive and in upcoming months, we should expect more projects created in collaboration from that part of the world.
