About the Client

FINESCE project promotes smart energy usage and sustainable resources through creative games. Partners in the FINESCE project wanted to showcase how infrastructure in smart cities can get modified and improved, through use of the serious games.

Parties that got involved in FINESCE worked on five different domains such as: Smart Factory - creating a renewable energy distribution system for “smart factory” consumer; E-Car Grid integration & Smart Grid Communication - creating EV charging system; as well as Smart Prosumer - creating smart houses; Energy grid management - create optimally balanced distribution grid; Smart Buildings I - creating smart office buildings; as well as Smart Buildings II - creating smart external buildings.
 

Client’s Challenge

The challenge was use of different approaches to promote and increase public awareness of renewable energy sources such as as wind power, solar power and biomass, smart energy efficient houses and buildings and functioning of EV charging system.
 

About Solution

The serious game was developed with different, creative game “missions” that promote efficient energy usage through visualization of energy production and consumption and use of real data with use of Augmented Reality concept. Each mission demonstrates the associated use case (trial site) in order to further contribute to the dissemination of the FINESCE results.

The visualization was based on data fusion and analysis to produce the most informative presentation of data. In addition, the Augmented Reality (AR) concept was applied to tap into relevant data based either on location or purposefully chosen markers. AR application for energy consumption visualization was developed. In order to augment the information which reflects the energy consumption, certain markers can be used in predefined places (e.g. factory machines, public places, events etc.) such as FINESCE project logo or QR codes etc.

The energy consumption data can also be fed to the model of the smart factory and displayed on the FINESCE or other web sites and smart phone applications. For example, the data captured by the device is uploaded to the server implementing required IoT functionality through various components, some of them FI-WARE compliant.

FINESCE game is divided into two segments, Augmented Reality and 3D Game. In 3D game, there are number of different sites and the player can make them “Green” by using different solutions. Each of missions teaches you something new about the Green world.
