The FINESCE project promotes smart energy and sustainable resources through creative games. The partners in the FINESCE project wanted to showcase how infrastructure in smart cities could be modified and improved through serious games.

CHALLENGE

Parties involved in FINESCE worked on five different domains, such as: Smart Factory – creating a renewable energy distribution system for a “smart factory” consumer; E-Car Grid Integration & Smart Grid Communication – creating an EV charging system; as well as Smart Prosumer – creating smart houses; Energy Grid Management – create an optimally balanced distribution grid; Smart Buildings I – creating smart office buildings; as well as Smart Buildings II – creating smart external buildings.

SOLUTION

An AR application for energy consumption visualization was developed. In order to trigger the information that showcases the energy consumption, certain markers could be used in predefined places (e.g. factory machines, public places, events, etc.) such as the FINESCE project logo or QR codes.

The energy consumption data could also be fed to the model of the smart factory and displayed on the FINESCE or other websites and smartphone applications. For example, data captured by the device is uploaded to a server implementing required IoT functionality through various components, some of them FI-WARE compliant.

TECHNOLOGY

The FINESCE game works on all types of smartphones and tablets (iOS and Android).

BENEFITS

The FINESCE project contributed to increasing the dissemination of the project through the use of serious games. Moreover, the players were able to learn more about renewable energy sources, such as wind power, solar power and biomass, smart energy efficient houses and buildings, and the EV charging systems.
